New York City, New York (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — Another crane accident was faced when a crane smashed into a 23 storied Electra apartment building on 11th June. Two workers were found dead due to the accident while one was badly wounded. One of the two workers who have been killed was in the crane cab when the accident occurred. According to the Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, this crane collapse was the most unacceptable of all the crane accidents that have been faced by New York in the past three months and that proper investigation will be carried out about this crane accident.
The metal frame of the crane crashed into the building’s upper floor. It has been found that the crane had been working on another building, which was under construction. As reported by a spokesman of fire service, the entire cab of the crane came off and the main arm of the cab hit the building thereby affecting the north-east edge of the 23 storied building.
Chaos was felt through the streets when a large number of emergency automobiles rushed to the accident spot during the rush hours of the morning. The buildings commissioner of the city has resigned after the increasing crane accidents, which have killed around 26 workers in the last few years. Although the city is taking extra measures and precautions while construction processes and inspections at the construction sites have been started, still the negligence on the part of both- the government and the construction sector is high.
Earlier the crane accident of 15th march killed seven men along with injuring about ten people when the steel support of a crane broke off. Not only a four storied building was damaged, various other buildings were affected as well. Similarly, in the October crane accident, a debris container was dropped from one of the skyscraper’s 53rd floor by a crane injuring a large number of people.
