New Jersey Scuba diver dies during his first dive

Cape May County, New Jersey (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A scuba diver, 34 years old, died on 13th June 2008 in the Atlantic Ocean waters off the Cape May coast. The spokesman, Christopher McLaughlin, of the coast guard, Ben Heinze, said that the coast guard had a call at around 10.15 am from Bubble Trouble vessel which told him that a scuba diver is surfacing unconscious on the water south-east 38 miles from Cape May.

The crew on a close by Barroness, a pleasure craft, pulled the scuba diver out from the water. One of the crew members on a helicopter of Atlantic City Coast Guard hoisted the man in the air craft and took him to an ambulance of Lower Township which had been waiting at the Cape May County Air port, Wildwood through which he had been rushed to the Cape Regional Medical Center, Cape May Court House. CPR was conducted on the person in addition to many efforts to revive the person but all were unsuccessful after which he was declared dead in the hospital.

McLaughlin said that releasing the person’s identity is against the policies of the coast guard but he told that the Investigative service of the coast guard will be conducting an extensive inquiry for the incident. He also reported that there were 5 more divers at the time when the unpleasant incident took place. According to him, this was the person’s first dive and he surfaced the water unconscious even before reaching the floor of the ocean. When the incident occurred, the conditions of the sea were clear and calm and the winds were light and the person had dived from a boat around 38 miles from Cape May.

The person has been identified as Nicholas Papageorge from North Wales, Pa. The homeport of the Bubble Trouble is situated in Cape May.
