Trenton, New Jersey (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — An 18-year old man was struck by a tractor trailer at approximately 6:30 pm, the evening of Tuesday, June 17 2008 and lost his life. New Jersey police reported that the incident took place at 200 Block, East Linden Avenue, Linden. The police chief of Linden, Michael Boyle, reported that the young man was declared dead on the scene. The name of the man has not yet been released.
Boyle said that the person driving the red colored flat-bed truck stopped after hitting the man. The accident is still under thorough investigation yet no charges are filed until now. At around 8:20 pm of the same day, the body was still covered with a tarp at the accident site and two black sneakers were lying on the street about ten feet from the teen’s body.
Neighbors said that the intersection between Clinton and Carteret streets of the Linden Avenue is typically used by motorists as a thoroughfare since there are very few traffic lights and stop signs, thus making it dangerous for pedestrians. Laura Gwaldis lives in a house near the accident site and came out when she heard the sounds of sirens. Before even seeing the accident, she had already assumed that it must be an accident because this is a usual occurrence at the intersection.
The accident took place only a block from the Linden School Number 6 which is a school for elementary education. One of the parents whose children are studying in the school said that they are worried about their children’s safety who have to cross the street everyday. However the neighbors say that cars tend to fly in this area, one thing they can do is to walk slowly and not expect the vehicles to stop for them.
