New York City, New York (New York Injury News) — The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued warnings to 25 companies and individuals that have made fraudulent claims of producing products that cure cancer, and are selling them to consumers online. The companies and persons have been ordered to stop selling the products and consumers are advised to not purchase or use them.
The Internet has been stated to provide an easily accessible outlet for fraudulent marketing and selling of fake cures and other things that may harm individuals. Some have been advertised to be more effective than regular cancer medications, be alternatives to chemotherapy and other treatments, be safe and potent for preventing disease, and other claims. Individuals who have used any of the fake products and experience adverse reactions are advised to seek immediate medical attention.
Due in part to numerous consumer complaints, the FDA, in conjunction with other national agencies, has begun an initiative to stop products that are marketed or sold deceptively from getting to consumers. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has also sent letters warning more than 100 web sites to stop their promotion of fake cancer treatments online. Violation of warnings may necessitate further action including criminal prosecution.
