Brooklyn, New York (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A violent fire hit a Brooklyn apartment early in the morning on Tuesday at around 2:20 a.m. and forced an old man to fling his grandchildren to the street. Eleven of the family members in the three bedroom apartment were trapped in the violent fire in which three small children were critically and severely burned.
According to Pablo Fuentes, an eye witness of the accident, the 52-year old grandfather tossed his two grandchildren from their second- story window when he felt the flames licking his back. Esteban Pagan, 38, who is a resident of the same apartments, told the grandfather to throw the infant from the window so that he could catch the one-year old baby girl.
The flames also caught Pablo’s wife, Rufina Fuente, as she was trying to help remove the grandchildren from the blaze. According to Tatiana Avila, an eye witness, she saw Rufina covered with flames while Pablo was trying his best to save his wife.
New York Firefighters hurriedly reached the apartment complex and tried their best to fight the smoke while pulling the children from the apartment. While nine of the family members were immediately taken to the Kings County Hospital, Pablo and Rufina are still in serious condition. According to the relatives of the Fuente family, five of the kids suffered serious fire burns and smoke inhalation.
The investigation for the accident is still ongoing and according to law enforcement agencies, there is no suspicion of foul play. Fire fighters say that the fire started in one of the electrical sockets that was overloaded.
