New York City (New York Injury News) — A construction worker, identified as Anthony Esposito, died Thursday morning when he fell off a 50-story construction walkway at a building site at 41st Street and 11th Avenue in Manhattan. An enormous luxury residential building, named Silver Towers, is currently under construction at the site.
Reportedly, the worker was part of a crew assigned to dismantle a massive crane. City officials have stated that the crane’s structural integrity was sound. The United States Occupational Safety and Health Administration (“OSHA”) will investigate the fatality. When there is a fatality or injury to three or more workers, an employer’s work site will be investigated by OSHA. Additionally the state of New York has laws to protect workers from height related accidents.
The City Department of Buildings ordered a work stoppage, as an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. The death of Anthony Esposito is the latest of a series of height-related construction accidents in New York City this year. Last week, a window washer fell to his death when his safety harness failed. Earlier this year two cranes collapsed, killing and injuring numerous people.
