Harpswell, Maine (New York Injury News) – What could have been a fatal crash turned out to be an easy landing with minor injuries to the passengers. Mr. Meisel was flying his cousin, and her boyfriend from the East Hampton Airport to the Farr Field Airstrip in Maine. The plane was a small four-seater single-engine Cessna 172. Just as it was about to land, the wind shifted greatly, causing him to have difficulty landing. As the tree line grew closer, he did not have enough power to clear them but landed right before into a tiny patch of grass. The plane hit the ground and skidded about 10 feet into a tree. Quickly, the three passengers exited the plane. The right wing of the plane was split in half, the back windshield flew out, and the tail broke off. They escaped with minor bumps and scrapes, truly a miracle landing. The incident is being investigated by the Federal Aviation Administration, the National Transportation Safety Board and the sheriff’s department.
