Gloucester County, New Jersey (NewYorkInjuryNews.com-News Report) – According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, a car crash occurs about every eight seconds. In the Elk Township, Gloucester County, New Jersey, a Honda Accord collided with a street-sweeper vehicle. All four adults present in the car passed away, except for the 2-month-old girl because she was strapped into her car seat. Honda were the driver, Jon Nordberg, 18, of Pilesgrove, Salem County; Rhonda Giorno, 17, of Clayton, Gloucester County; Matthew Funk, 19, of Pilesgrove; and Shaheem Hamilton, 23, of Philadelphia.
Within minutes, a Cooper University Hospital medevac helicopter landed at the scene when an ambulance was also pulling up. The roof of the ambulance hit the rear rotor of the helicopter. The helicopter sustained minimal damage. State police said that no charges have been filed.
To portray just how often accidents are happening on the roadways, before the above-mentioned crash, there was an accident that happened just ten hours before, on Interstate 295 in Cherry Hill. A large tractor-trailer crossed the median into the southbound lanes and smashed into a Volkswagen and a box truck. Three lives were taken.
Fatal accidents are happening constantly. There must be greater safety measures enforced, maybe requiring driving classes for all new drivers, maybe raising the driving age, maybe paying law-enforcement officials more to ticket more often. Whatever the solution may be, fatal car crash statistics must be lowered. Drivers must be more alert and aware of the severe consequences that wil result from a collision.
