Feds recall Intermatic Electronic Timers after reports of shock injuries.

Chicago, IL(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–Intermatic, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of approximately 240,000 units of in-wall electronic timers. Intermatic is a consumer and industrial energy control product manufacturer based out of Spring Grove, Illinois. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov announced the recall on July 1, 2009. The recall was issued after discovering Intermatic Models ST01 and EI600, In-wall Electronic Timers, pose a shock hazard to users. During replacement of the timer’s battery, a metal object within the timer can come into contact with internal metal parts possibly shocking the consumer or maintenance person maintaining the potentially defective product.

The following models are under federal recall:
– ST01
– ST01C
– ST01AC
– ST01AC70
– ST01C70
– ST01CL
– EI600C
– EI600LAC
– EI600LAC8
– EI600WC
– EI600WC8

The recalled item is a lamp and appliance timer that usually replaces a standard wall switch. The timers are 2.5 inches tall and 1.75 inches wide. They come in the following colors: almond, off-white, or white. The product under recall should have “Intermatic” on the front cover door and four keypad buttons. Intermatic timers that have a 3-digit date code inside of the cover door are not a part of this recall. The recalled items were made in Mexico. The timers retailed for about $25 to $45 at retailers and distributors across the U.S. between March 2007 and June 2009. A free repair kit is available to consumers. Before acquiring the kit, consumers should refrain from changing the recalled timer’s battery. Twelve minor shock incidents have been reported. Consumers who have been injured due to the recalled items may be entitled to compensation for their damages and injuries.
