I-95 fuel tanker rollover in Newburyport spills fuel and injures several.
Boston, MA (JusticeNewsFlash.com)—A fuel tanker rollover left several people injured, and shut down interstate 95, in Newburyport, indefinitely on Monday, as reported by the Eagle-Tribune. According to Massachusetts State Police reports, the tanker rolled over on interstate 95, just a quarter-mile ahead of Route 113 in Newburyport, which spilt at least 200 gallons of fuel around 9:15 a.m. The accident may have involved as many as two cars and a Jeep rolled over onto its side and was sitting in a southbound lane of I-95. Accident investigators are still trying to determine the cause of the accident, and who was involved. The number of injured victims is still unknown. Officials on the scene report Medflight responded to the accident, but it was unknown whether any victims were transported.
Massachusetts’s officials fear fuel may be leaking into the Merrimack River. Foam trucks and Enpro, an environmental cleanup company, responded to the scene of the accident and were attempting to contain and clean up the fuel spill. Massachusetts State Department of Environmental Protection is currently building burms around storm draining to prevent any fuel leakage into the river.
