Minnesota’s Marine Tech recalls Tabletop Rope Cutter for possible burn injuries.

Minneapolis, MN(JusticeNewsFlash.com)–MarineTech Products Inc., has participated in a voluntary recall of approximately 450 units of Tabletop Rope Cutters, used for cauterizing and cutting rope. MarineTech Products is a company based out of White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Safety regulators with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov announced the product safety recall on July 1, 2009, after discovering the rope cutters pose fire and burn hazards when they overheat. The CPSC is primarily responsible for maintaining the safety of consumers when using consumer products.

MarineTech part number 75-7070 and West Marine part number 559419 are a part of the federal recall. The part numbers can be found on the side of the rope cutter. “Panther” is also written on the recalled rope cutter. The recalled Tabletop Rope Cutters were made in Taiwan and retailed for $100 in various West Marine stores across the U.S. The products were available for sale from December 2006 to April 2009. Four incidents of the rope cutters overheating have been reported. Fortunately, no injuries related to the rope cutters have been reported.

The Ramsey County firm urges consumers to stop using the recalled Tabletop Rope Cutters. A free replacement cutter is available by contacting MarineTech. Questions regarding the replacement or recall should be directed to the Minnesota company by phone at 800-634-7838 or online at www.marinetech.info. Incident or injury reports can be filed at the CPSC website at www.cpsc.gov/cgibin/incident/aspx. Consumers who have been injured due to usage of the recalled products may be entitled to compensation for their damages. Contacting a Minnesota product injury lawyer may help injured victims recover from their injuries.
