Sears’ Craftsman Lawn Tractors recalled for defective parking brake.
Augusta, GA–Husqvarna Consumer Outdoor Products N.A. Inc. has participated in a recall of approximately 8,200 units of Craftsman Lawn Tractors. Husqvarna, a Swedish company that produces many lawn and garden equipment for Sears’ Craftsman brand, is located in Augusta, Georgia. The voluntary recall was issued after the company discovered the lawn tractors pose a loss of control hazard when the parking brake fails to function properly. Safety regulators working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.cpsc.gov announced the recall on July 8, 2009. The CPSC, created by the Consumer Product Safety Act, is responsible for the safety of consumers and consumer products.
The following items, with serial numbers from 012709A001000 through 031209D999999, are under federal recall:

Currently, there have been no reported incidents or injuries related to the recalled lawn tractors. The Richmond County firm urges consumers to stop using the machine immediately. Contact Sears for a free inspection and parking brake cable repair at your home. Questions regarding the inspection, brake repair, and recall can be directed to Sears at 800-978-7615 or by visiting their website at www.sears.com.
