The 62nd Annual Melvin Belli Seminar will be held Friday July 24 in San Francisco, home town of the legendary trial lawyer whose name and legacy this prestigious event honours.
Melvin M. Belli, 1907-1996, a founder and past president of ATLA (now AAJ) was one of the truly great lawyers of the 20th Century. Dubbed “The King of Torts” by LIFE magazine his courageous, innovative use of demonstrative evidence and his willingness to teach and share his techniques were second to none. His flambouyant character was intimately linked to the life of San Francisco and his eccentric offices and lifestyle were the keen focus of media and tourist attention. The Belli Society continues his tradition with hard-hitting, practical seminars featuring courtroom skills. The rapid-fire, idea-packed programs feature brief presentations, followed by spirited audience participation and questions. This years speakers include such greats as Ira Leesfield, Gary Gober, Gary Pillersdorf, John K Powers, Randy Scarlett, Ted Schwartz, Michael Maggiano and a host of others.
To further mark the occasion, artist Trevor Goring who knew Mel Belli and painted two original portraits of him will be offering for auction a signed limited edition print of his portrait at the Public Justice Annual Gala and Awards ceremony, Tuesday, July 28 at the San Francisco Design Center. Proceeds will go to support the ongoing sterling work of this public interest law firm. An original portrait on canvas of Mel Belli (shown here) will be on display in the American Association for Justice exhibit hall at the S.F. Hilton from Saturday July 25th until Tuesday July 28th in the context of the AAJ annual conference.
