Maryland accident attorney’s alert- a fatal collision involving a Calvert County Sheriff deputy and a Buick LeSabre leaves a young girl dead on Route 4.
Baltimore, MD—A recent high school graduate was killed in a tragic automobile accident, which involved a Calvert County sheriff’s officer. The fatal accident occurred on Friday, July 24, 2009 at 10:47 a.m. on Route 4 as reported by The Washington Post.
Northern High School graduate, Rachel Alexandra Campbell, 18, of Dunkirk, was diving her 1997 Buick LeSabre southbound on Route 4 when Deputy C. Wayne Wells, 34, struck her vehicle with his police cruiser. Wells was reportedly responding to a “priority” call with his sirens and lights on while traveling northbound on Route 4. Campbell was attempting to make a left hand turn across two northbound lanes of Route 4 into the Apple Greene subdivision when the cruise struck the car. The impact of the T-bone collision left severe damage to the passenger side of Campbell’s vehicle. The collision pushed Campbell’s car off the side of the road and caused it to burst into flames. The cruiser over turned on its roof trapping the Sheriff’s officer inside. Well’s had to be extracted from his police car by responding rescue teams. The severely injured police officer was airlifted by Calvert County emergency medical (EMS) crews to Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore for treatment of his critical injuries. Well’s was reportedly released from the Maryland hospital on Sunday. Campbell was pronounced dead at the scene of the fatal two-car collision. The Calvert County sheriff’s office has requested the Anne Arundel County police department and the Maryland State Police to complete an independent accident investigation of the tragic Friday morning crash.
