Gasoline tanker wrecks – spills 7,000 gallons of oil in Morris Township NJ

Police officers report Lee Transport Systems LLC gasoline tanker crashed resulting in hazardous spill in New Jersey.

Morris Township, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Gasoline tanker crashed on its side Wednesday afternoon spilling 7000 gallons of gasoline on Whippany Road and Lindsey Drive. The wrecked tanker’s spill closed multiple lanes of traffic, and people were evacuated, announced the Star- Ledger.

The truck driver was operating a Mac truck, which was run by Lee Transport Systems LLC located in Elmer, New Jersey. 38 year-old driver, Eric Majette, a local of Ewing, suffered minor injuries.

The tanker contaminated the local Whippany River, where many residents and vacationers resided at the Westin Governor Morris hotel and the Lindsley Arms Apartment, which had to be vacated temporarily due to the hazardous spill.

Eric Majette was transported by Emergency Medical Services to Morristown Memorial Hospital and discharged later that night.  After the spill was cleaned up, people were able to return to their homes and visitors could return to the hotel, announced police officials. The roads that were blocked off were later opened before the morning rush hours.  Lindsley Drive, Morris Avenue and east-bound Columbia turnpike were available for normal traffic flow before midnight.

The Tanker was carted off the street shortly after midnight. The investigation is still underway as cleanup crews work together with the state’s environmental protection group and the county’s Hazardous Materials group.
