Leesburg Waste Management worker killed by pickup truck driver!

Ocala, FL–Marion County Fire Rescue and Dunnellon Fire Rescue teams responded to a fatal accident on U.S. 41 in Dunnellon around 6:30 a.m., Monday morning. As reported by Ocala.com, 43 year-old Waste Management worker, Luis Ponce-Rizzo of Leesburg, was killed when a pickup truck driver struck him while he was loading trash into the back of a garbage truck. Ponce-Rizzo was pinned between the garbage truck and the front grill of the pickup truck when the driver struck him infront of a residence during his morning garbage route.

Dunnellon Fire Rescue pronounced the Waste Management worker dead at the scene of the fatal motor vehicle collision (MVC). The pickup truck driver, Ted J. Plouff of Hernando, reportedly failed to stop and Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) officers found no evidence the pickup truck driver attempted to brake before slamming into the back of the Waste Management truck. Plouff was transported to Olando Regional Medical Center by emergency medical services (EMS) crews for treatment of his serious injuries. Alcohol tests for both the driver of the Waste Management truck and the pickup truck are pending.
