Florida brain injury attorney’s alert- Walt Disney World performer slips and falls-suffers a potential traumatic brain injury.

Orlando, FL—A Walt Disney World and theater-community mainstay performer tragically died on Monday from injuries he sustained during a theatrical show. The performer slammed his head into a wall after slipping on a wet spot on Thursday morning, August 6, 2009, as reported by the Orlando Sentinel.

The Disney World actor, Mark Priest, 47, was performing in the interactive pirate show, where performers lead park guests through various pirate-skills tests. Priest reportedly fell during a mock sword fight when he slipped on a wet spot on the stage. The slip sent the actor head-first into a wall where he sustained a broken vertebra in his neck and a laceration to his head, which required 55 stitches to close. The fall may have given Priest a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The performer quickly exited the stage after his fall, so the blood covering Priest’s face would not alarm the children in attendance of the show.

Officials stated Priest was transported to Florida Hospital Celebration Health by area emergency medical service (EMS) crews for treatment of his injuries. Priest was later transferred to Florida Hospital Orlando for continued treatment, and was placed in the intensive care unit. The performer was reportedly in high spirits and joking with emergency crews and hospital staff during the whole ordeal. On Monday, Priest showed signs of improvement and was moved from intensive care unit. Suddenly, Priest experience complications from his injuries and died at the Florida Hospital Orlando on Monday. The official cause of death has not been determined. This was apparently Priest’s first “Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial” performance. Disney officials stated they were unaware the severity of the performers injuries. After Disney was alerted of the tragic death, they immediately contacted the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) http://www.osha.gov/ and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
