Texas 18 wheeler accident attorney educates the Texas Department of Public Safety investigates a semi-truck wreck caused by possible driver inattention.
Texas 18-wheeler accident attorney reports a fatal accident in a construction zone on Interstate 35 near Gainesville left three people dead and one injured. The tragic 18-wheeler collision occurred on Monday, August 3, 2009, near the Texas-Oklahoma border, as reported by The Houston Chronicle.
The multiple vehicle crash occurred in a section of the Interstate which merges into one lane due to construction work on a bridge. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/ a semi-truck driven by James Crayton, 59, of Dallas slammed into a rear car sitting in a construction zone traffic jam without even slowing down. Anthony Brandon drove the car hit by the big rig, and his wife Kimberly was a passenger inside the vehicle. The 18-wheeler hit Brandon’s automobile with such force it exploded on impact, killing the couple. The big rig then slammed into another car leaving the driver, Carol Whaley, 63, and his wife, Linda Whaley, 61, of Yalaha, Florida with serious injuries. The out-of-control semi truck proceeded to strike another car driven by Darryl Hoosier, 55, of Lafayette, Louisiana, which pushed him into the back of a second tractor trailer. Carol Whaley was reportedly transported by emergency medical service (EMS) crews to a Fort Worth area hospital where he is currently listed in fair condition. Linda Whaley was also transported to a Gainesville area hospital by EMS personnel where she was treated for her injuries by doctors and nurses and released. The driver of the out-of-control 18-wheeler was transported to a Gainesville hospital for blood testing and questioning. Bradco Supply, a building material distribution company, reportedly operated the semi truck. The driver of the second semi truck did not suffer any injuries in the multiple vehicle wreck.
Texas police officials say driver inattention of the semi truck drivers, and delayed construction on a bridge near the accident scene contributed to the fatal multiple vehicle collision. KKM Construction based in Texarkana, Arkansas, is reportedly completing the construction work on the bridge, which is only 50 percent complete. The 45-day contract the construction company is under has run out, and the Texas Department of Transportation http://www.txdot.gov/ will be charging the company for liquidated damages. Officials state there are numerous warning signs, which alert drivers of the upcoming construction zone. The stretch of highway where accident occurred has a warning sign every mile until you reach the construction area, where traffic is diverted into one lane to cross the bridge.
