Work-related personal injury accident lawyer reports a potentially hazardous spill occurred in a New York UPS building where employees were evacuated.
Montgomery, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A hazardous chemical spill occurred at a UPS building unit where employees had to be evacuated in Montgomery, New York, according to the Times Herald-Record.
The chemical spill happened Thursday night at the UPS warehouse located on 645 Neelytown Road. Officials reported to the scene to find employees evacuated standing outside. The Orange County Fire Rescue workers, and the U.S Department of Transportation Pipelines and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration workers, arrived to control the chemical spill.
The UPS unit chemical leak also shut down Interstate 84 for an hour. The hazardous materials formed a pungent white cloud rising up from the highway.
No injuries have been reported, but all UPS employees within the warehouse were ordered to leave. Immediately adjacent to the UPS storehouse was a Home Depot building which also made its workers evacuate the premises as a safety precaution.
A local Road also closed for a number of hours from Neelytown Road to Route 416 due to the disastrous leak, stated authorities.
The HAZDAT cleanup workers showed up to determine the nature of the chemical and then figure out the most effective way to remove the matter.
A source on-site reportedly claimed to officials that one of the barrels was perforated, which caused the massive leak in the UPS warehouse. The investigation remains underway.
