New York Work Related Firefighter Injury Attorneys report on a pregnant woman who was hospitalized and 10 firefighters injured in 6 story apartment building fire.
Staten Island, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Billowing smoke rose from a New York six-story apartment located in Park Hill in Clifton County, where close to 400 tenants were forced to vacate the building, announced the Staten Island Advance.
Tenants who noticed the smoke first moved quickly to alert their neighbors to get out immediately.
Near 400 people living in the burning building survived and escaped through the smoke-filled hallways while others jumped down the fire escapes.
One pregnant tenant was assisted by her neighbor to leave the building. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) quickly transported her to the hospital for excessive smoke exposure that had filled her lungs. No person was reported to have suffered from serious injuries. 10 firefighters suffered minor injuries while many of the other 90 firefighters suffered from exhausted and dehydration.
Fire rescue officials claimed that the 2-alarm fire began in the apartment’s lowest level and began its ascent on the walls destroying everything on the first floor. Firefighters had to break through the walls to access the inside of the building so as to be certain that the fire had not spread to the upper levels. The New York fire department continues to investigate the plausible cause for the fire.
