Columbus, OH—A Thursday, August 20, 2009 crash closed U.S. 33 for almost two hours at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash, which left seven people injured. The crash happened on the U.S. 33 bypass between U.S. 22 and Tarklin Road at 1:24 p.m., as reported by the Lancaster Eagle Gazette.
Ohio Highway Patrol officials stated it is unclear how the multiple vehicle collision occurred which left a Ford Ranger in the median, and how a Chrysler Town and Country van rear-ended a Pontiac Sunfire. Roger Green, 51, of Logan was reportedly driving a Ford Ranger with passenger, Carla Starner, 44 of Logan. Both occupants of the Ranger were reportedly injured and transported by emergency medical services (EMS) crews to Fairfield Medical Center for treatment. The diver of the Chrysler van, Diane Rice, 38, of Belpre, and two unidentified passengers were also injured and transported by EMS professionals to Fairfield Medical Center for treatment. Rice was later transferred to Grant Medical Center where she is currently listed in stable condition. The driver of the rear-ended Sunfire, Carla Rutherford, 33, of Sugar Grove, and a unidentified passenger were also transported to Fairfield Medical Center by EMS medics. Rutherford was treated for her injuries and released. Police officials have not issued any citations in connection with the crash.
