California criminal lawyer’s alert- San Mateo County Hillsdale High School attacked with pipe bombs.

San Francisco Bay, CA—A “Columbine-Style” attack at Hillsdale High School was averted after a teacher reacted on impulse and wrestled a suspected former student to the ground. The attack occurred on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 8 a.m., as reported by CNN.

According to San Mateo police officials, a former 17-year-old unidentified student entered Hillsdale High School armed with 10 homemade pipe bombs, a chain saw, a 2-foot-long sword, and fully suited in a military tactical vest. The attacker detonated two pipe bombs in the school’s hallway, which set off the school’s fire-alarm system. No one inside the High School, which enrolls more than 1,000 students, was injured in the attack. As the attacker came through a set of doors, an English Language Development teacher, Kennett Santana, 35, tackled him to the ground. The teacher reportedly bear hugged the suspect and threw him on the ground until another teacher and the principal, Jeff Gilbert, could help to restrain the suspect. Police officials stated it is unknown what the suspect’s intentions for the attack were. The suspect is currently being held at San Mateo County’s juvenile hall. The suspect was reportedly arrested on grounds of six felony counts, such as: attempted murder, igniting a destructive device with intent to murder, possession of destructive devices, possession of destructive devices on school grounds, possession of destructive devices with intent to injure or destroy property and assault with a deadly weapon. Hillsdale High School is currently closed until police officials, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) http://www.atf.gov/ finish their investigations and secure the school.
