Lincoln, NE—A collision between and pickup truck and a school bus left 23 people injured. The two-vehicle wreck occurred on Monday, August 24, 2009, at a rural unmarked intersection, as reported by Newsday.com.

According to Lancaster County sheriff’s office, the pickup truck was traveling south near the Gage County line, and east of U.S. Highway 77, when the truck slammed into the eastbound school bus. The impact of the crash rolled the Norris District school bus on its right side. The front end of the pickup truck was completely ripped off, and caught on fire due to the impact of the crash. The school bus was reportedly carrying 41 students at the time of the wreck. Twenty-one students reported injuries and were transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to Lincoln area hospitals for treatment. The injuries the students sustain were mostly bumps, bruises, and soft tissue injuries. The driver of the school bus, Ronny Aden, 67, of Cortland, who has been driving for the Norris District for five years, also suffered injuries. The pickup truck driver, Jeff Hall, 50, of Hickman, sustained injuries as well. It is unknown if the two drivers received medical attention. The uninjured students aboard the bus were transported to school by another district bus. A Lancaster County sheriff’s deputy stated, Hall will probably receive a traffic citation for failing to yield for a bus.
