California employment lawyer’s alert-The equal employment opportunity commission filed a lawsuit against Target stores.
Santa Ana, CA—The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) http://www.eeoc.gov/ filed a lawsuit against Target Stores Inc., which alleges the American retailing company of denying a disabled employee equal rights. The employment lawsuit was filed on Thursday, August 20, 2009 in Santa Ana, as reported by the DailyBreeze.com.
The employment lawsuit, filed by the EEOC, claims the retail giant discriminated, Jeremy Schott, a part-time employee at Target’s Foothill Ranch location. The lawsuit claims Target dramatically reduced Schott’s scheduled work hours because of his cerebral palsy and “limited intellectual functioning” medical conditions. Target managers were allegedly fully aware of his condition and his need for accommodation when they hired him. The EEOC also claims Target neglected to alert Schott’s job coach and his parents of any direct in person meetings, which involved any work-related topics or issues. Due to Schott’s medical condition he is unable to communicate effectively with others without the help of a job coach. Target was allegedly fully aware to notify the job coach and his parents of in person meetings, which they failed to do so even if Schott insisted on attending these meeting alone. The EEOC reportedly tried to come to a voluntary settlement with Target out of court before filing the lawsuit.
