Los Angeles, CA–The parents of a baby, who misdiagnosed by health care professionals at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, recovered a $7.3 million medical malpractice jury verdict on Friday, August 28, 2009. The unanimous Los Angeles Superior Court jury verdict was recovered by California medical malpractice lawyers representing the baby, Paris Campen, now 5, and her parents, as reported by the Mercury News. Meningitis is known to be fatal to infants. Rapid diagnosis with immediate administration of the appropriate antibiotics is imperative for the maintenance of brain function and life.

Campen was suffering from meningitis and hospital workers failed to diagnose the baby in time to effectively treat the dangerous infection. Meningitis causes swelling in the meninges of the brain. The young girl suffered irreversible brain damage from the delay in care by doctors and nurses at the Los Angeles area hospital according to the lawsuit. California medical malpractice attorneys representing the family also alleged doctor’s in Cedars-Sinai neonatal intensive care unit were negligent. The monetary damages recovered by plaintiff’s attorneys will be placed in a trust for past and future medical care for Campen.
