Horseheads, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A taxi and a minivan crashed in Horseheads Thursday afternoon at the crossroads of Grand Central Avenue and Fairport Lane injuring two people, announced the Star-Gazette.
The taxi driver, resident of Totem, New York was traveling northbound on Fairport Lane when it was struck by a construction truck at Grand Central Avenue. Horseheads police along with emergency medical services (EMS) arrived at the scene of the crash where the taxi driver, identified as 61-year-old Joseph Bereza, resident of Elmira, was reported to have suffered serious injuries. The construction truck driver, identified as 59-year-old Gene Brown, an employee of Bothar Construction located in Endicott, was reportedly not harmed in the accident.
Bereza was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center to be treated for his injuries by doctors and nurses. A passenger traveling in the taxi at the time, identified as 59-year-old Terrance Wolcott, resident of Elmira Heights, was taken to the hospital and to be treated for minor injuries and discharged Thursday night from St. Joseph’s hospital. The accident happened close to 5 p.m. and shut down normal traffic flow at the intersection for a few hours after the crash. Horseheads detectives are investigating to determine the cause of the crash.
