Legal news for New York Truck Accident Lawyers—gasoline tanker spilled jet fuel and closes highway in Williamsville.
Buffalo, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A highly congested expressway closed and residencies in Williamsville were evacuated due to a gasoline tanker semi crash that spilled 10,000 gallons of airplane fuel when the truck flipped over, announced the Lower Hudson Journal News.
New York police reported nearby residencies had to temporarily leave their homes. The crash occurred in the early afternoon on Thursday around 1:30 p.m. when the tanker tipped over due to unknown causes on Interstate 290. Police reported that the massive tanker spill created a 5-mile long flood of gasoline that shut down the interstate parkway in both directions.
New York officials identified the truck as a Griffith Oil tanker that is used for transporting Jet fuel.
The driver was identified as 48-year-old Craig Kozlowski, resident of Elma, in Erie County New York. Emergency medical services (EMS) responded to the scene to transport the injured driver to a local hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses. Another Griffith Company truck was sent to take on the rest of the tankers airplane fuel to its destination.
New York police officials stated that the busy highway has since been reopened after cleanup crews cleared the highway of all the fuel. Residents were permitted to return to their homes. It is still not known what caused the crash.
