Detroit, MI—A two-vehicle crash left a teenager dead, and injured three others after a car slammed into an off-duty police officer’s SUV. The fatal crash happened on Saturday, September 12, 2009 around 9:00 p.m. along Utica Road in Sterling Heights, as reported by the Detroit Free Press.

According to police reports, a 47-year-old Sterling Heights resident was pulling out onto Utica Road from Pomona when he lost control of his 1988 Ford Thunderbird. The man overcorrected his vehicle, and swerved into the path of an off-duty Sterling Heights police officer, who was traveling northbound on Utica. The cop’s SUV then slammed into the passenger side of the Thunderbird. The off-duty police officer was reportedly en route to work the midnight shift at the police department when the crash occurred. The driver of the Thunderbird and his passengers, a 19-year-old man, of Sterling Heights; and 16-year-old boy, of Grand Rapids, were transported by area emergency medical services (EMS) crews to the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in Clinton Township for treatment. The police officer was also transported by EMS teams to the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, where he was treated and released that night by medical professionals. The 19-year-old was pronounced dead by attending medical officials at the hospital. Police officials are reportedly investigation the fatal two-vehicle crash.
