New York personal injury lawyer-Jonathan C. Reiter-educates New York drivers on keeping their kids safe while driving!

New Source: JusticeNewsFlash.com

New York personal injury lawyer, Jonathan C. Reiter, an experienced automobile accident lawyer asserts drivers must be aware of child passenger safety while transporting kids on New York and New Jersey area highways and roadways. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among children across the United States according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) http://www.cdc.gov. In the U.S., 1,335 passengers, ages 14 years and younger, died in motor vehicle crashes in the year 2006. Nearly 184,000 children were injured. The CDC calculates the statistics to average 4 deaths per day in automobile accidents with 504 injuries each day. The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) asserts children traveling in the appropriate car and booster seats reduce serious and fatal injuries by more than half.

The New York based automobile accident attorney, J.C. Reiter and his legal team at the law firm of Jonathan C. Reiter, are announcing their support of the National Child Passenger Safety Week and urge all New York area residents and drivers across the country to embrace the need for child passenger safety. National Child Passenger Safety Week begins September 12 and extends through September 19, 2009. The goal of NHTSA’s child safety initiative is to bring nationwide attention to safely transporting children in motor vehicles. The use of the right age and size appropriate safety restraint may save your child’s life. The CDC suggests the taking the following actions to keep your child safe:

Seat all children 12 and younger in the back seat. Properly restrain all passengers in your car before you drive anywhere, no matter how quick or short the trip may be.

  • Read your car (or booster) seat instruction manual and your vehicle owner’s manual to make sure you are properly installing and using the seat.
  • Send in your car seat registration card to the company and/or manufacturer so you can be contacted regarding recalls or safety issues with your car seat.
  • REPLACE any car seat involved in a motor vehicle accident immediately. Once a car or booster seat has been involved in an accident it is no longer safe for use.

New York car crash attorney, Reiter, is informing all drivers of the importance of education and awareness of the proper child safety restraints available. The CDC reports one study found 73% of 3,500 observed child restraint systems were improperly used and placed the child at an increased risk of injury during a crash. Drivers concerned about car or booster seat recalls may call the NHTSA Auto Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. Reiter also says there are community resources available to help parents and drivers navigate car and booster seat installation and fitting. Consumers can consult NHTSA’s Child Safety Seat Inspection Station Locator at http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/cps/cpsfitting/index.cfm to receive hands-on assistance. With the millions of people traveling daily throughout New York and New Jersey on roadways and highways safely transporting children is a top priority. If you or one of your children has been injured in a motor vehicle collision (MVC) you may be entitled to compensation. Contact a New York personal injury attorney who is experienced in the complexities of automobile accident claims.
