Medina, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Orleans County emergency medical services (EMS) and County Firefighters responded to the scene of a semi truck flipped on its side in that closed the intersection in Medina, announced the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
The big rig flipped over early morning Tuesday at the intersection of Commercial Street and Prospect Avenue, reported Medina Fire Rescue officials. The wreck caused the intersection to be shut down normal traffic flow for more than 3 hours. The semi truck was transporting scrap metal and other parts of motor vehicles at the time of the accident.
Fire Rescue officials responded to the scene of the accident to extricate the driver of the truck who had already removed himself from the vehicle. Police reported that when paramedics offered to take him to the hospital for his injuries, he refused by stating that he was unharmed in the crash, reported police officials. It was not said if he was treated at the scene of the accident.
The rig had also unloaded large amounts of oil that had spilled out of the truck due to the crash. Firefighters worked quickly to clean up the mess in order to prevent the oil to spread into the Medina water sewer system.
A cleanup team worked to remove all the wreckage from the intersection to reopen the lanes for traffic again. The lanes were reopened to the public in less than 4 hours after the crash. Medina police officials continue to investigate the crash.
