Legal news for New York medical malpractice lawyers— A Brooklyn New York man’s death is the result of hospital staff maltreatment where the family has since sued the doctors.
Brooklyn, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A Brooklyn man suffered from a heart attack while at Maimonides Medical Center in 2008 where the hospital staff’s lack of treatment was claimed to be the reason for the 52-year-olds death, announced New York Daily News.
The former resident of Brooklyn, Jacob Goldbrunner, was taken to the Maimonides Medical Center in July 2008 for a cardiac catheterization to prepare him for doctors to assess and treat his heart condition. The medical staff could not locate the key to the lab, or find an anesthesiologist to prepare Goldbrunner for the procedure. One physician working at the hospital could not even tell the family where the lab was located within the hospital.
Goldbrunner and his family became distraught when their dad was still experiencing chest pain while the doctors and medical staff’s were still incapable of attending to him. The family waited to be seen and taken care of for five hours. In that time, Goldbrunner has a heart attack in the midst of doctors and medical officials.
The family filed a lawsuit against the hospitals doctors last week in Brooklyn Supreme Court. When Goldbrunner and the accompanying family members were walked to the lab inside the hospital, they were shocked to find out the necessary testing could not be accomplished since the residential doctor still did not have the key.
The Goldbrunner family filed a lawsuit based on the fact that he suffered a heart attack while waiting to be treated. The lawyer representing the family in this tragic case claimed that by the time, Goldbrunner’s heart was in serious condition and required oxygen; medical personnel inserted the tube that was supposed to be placed in his lungs into his stomach instead.
Goldbrunner’s heart sustained such damaged due to the avoidable delays and lack of responsible medical attention that he needed a heart transplant to survive. Doctors at the Medical Center sent Goldbrunner to the Westchester Medical Center where there was claimed to be a heart available for his transplant. He was transported via ambulance and the family sustained hope with the situation.
Upon arriving at the Westchester Medical Center, the family was told that there was not a heart transplant for him. Jacob Goldbrunner died two weeks later. The family is pursuing a court date.
