Madison County, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — A motorcyclist from Auburn was killed after riding into the eastbound lanes of traffic and collided with van Saturday afternoon in the town of Lenox, announced the Madison County Courier.

The motorcyclist was traveling in the westbound lanes when he lost control of the bike and flew into the eastbound lanes directly into a van traveling with 3 passengers. The motorcyclist, identified as 24-year-old Joshua Smith, resident of Auburn, New York, collided with the van and then landed in a nearby ditch after being catapulted off of his motorcycle.

Madison County officials and emergency medical services (EMS) responded to the scene to treat the injured. The driver of the van was identified as 57-year-old Florence Torres, resident of the town of Sullivan.

Paramedics transported Torres to the Syracuse hospital to be treated by doctors and nurses for his moderate injuries. Police reported three other passengers traveling in Torres van. Police did not release the identities or the ages of the passengers. Smith was declared dead at the scene.

He was reportedly riding with a group of other motorcyclists at the time of the crash. Smith had been doing a “wheelie” right before the accident. Madison County police are investigating the case.
