Denver, CO—Thirteen people were rushed to local hospitals after a Regional Transportation District (RTD) bus slammed into a light pole. The single-vehicle crash happened on Thursday morning, September 24, 2009, around 7:00 a.m., at the intersection of East 49th Avenue and Dallas Street, as reported by The Denver Post.
According to Police officials, a RTD route no. 43 bus driver apparently dozed off while driving the bus, and slammed into a light pole. Police officials have not released the identity of the bus driver at this time. Thirteen people, including the driver, were injured in the wreck. The victims were rushed by area emergency medical services (EMS) teams to four different hospitals for treatment of their injuries. The injuries reportedly included a broken nose, and a possible concussion. None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening, according to police officials. The RTD bus driver was cited for careless driving in connection with the crash. There were no other vehicles reportedly involved with the collision. Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the single vehicle crash.
