Montauk, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A Sport Utility Vehicle crashed on Route 27 in Montauk injuring three people early morning Sunday, announced the East Hampton Press.
East Hampton Town officials reported the head-on collision between the SUV and the tow truck to have occurred in the 7 o’clock hour on Sunday.
The driver of the tow truck was identified as 28-year-old Joseph Norton, resident of Center Moriches, who was heading east on Route 27 when he distractedly passed a vehicle in front of him and made it impossible for him to get back in his lane. The tow truck then slammed into a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder. The impact of the crash launched the SUV into the guardrail in the east lanes of traffic.
The Nissan SUV was on its side against the guardrail when rescue workers arrived. The driver of the SUV was identified as 50-year-old Thomas Murphy, resident of North Carolina. Two of the SUV passengers were identified as 20-year-old Keryn Murphy, and 24-year-old Shannon Murphy.
Police filed the accident report documenting that Thomas Murphy and Shannon Murphy suffered lacerations on their heads. Keryn Murphy sustained bleeding internally. Emergency medical services (EMS) transported the three injured victims to the Southampton Hospital for treatment. Joseph Norton and his passenger did not receive any medical attention at their request.
