Yonkers, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A FDNY firefighter died and two other firefighters suffered injuries when they were looking for people trapped in a house fire, announced the Journal News.
The 39-year-old firefighter, Patrick Joyce, was a part of the New York Fire Department for 16 years. He was searching for any of the tenants that could still be in the 2 ½ story building. When Joyce was looking for others in the burning building, he fell into the floor from the top floor of the house. Emergency medical services (EMS) transported the injured firefighter to a local hospital to be treated. Joyce’s injuries proved fatal soon after he was in the care of doctors and nurses.
Two other brave firefighters were also injured in the blaze, one who was a lieutenant, who was severely injured but was stabilized at the hospital by doctors. The blaze began around 1 am on 149 Waverly Street. The three firefighters headed into the inferno after there were reports that several people were trapped inside. They ran in the building immediately to search and rescue any survivors that were trapped.
The fire department reported that all of the tenants had escaped and the fire was extinguished by 2:30 a.m. The Red Cross arrived at the scene to offer aid to the four families that had just lost their homes. The cause of the house fire has not been determined as of yet.
