The FedEx semi truck was traveling west bound on Interstate 90 in Rotterdam, New York when it slammed into a concrete blockade after the truck driver had fallen asleep behind the wheel. The semi’s rear cargo carrier broke loose and rolled into the other lane where a tractor trailer transporting apples, which spilled and caused the truck to overturn.
Police reported to the scene. Interstate 90 was blocked off from traffic due to the wreck. The crash took place in Rotterdam on Wednesday. The right lane of the highway was reopened Thursday morning around 8:45 a.m. Traffic was permitted to travel in the west bound lanes as of Friday morning around 1 a.m.
New York State troopers reported that the driver of the FedEx truck had dozed off when he crashed into the barrier on the right shoulder of the highway. The apple truck driver was reported to have suffered minor injuries due to the collision with the FedEx cargo back of the semi. Interstate 90 was completely reopened as of Friday morning.
