A blaze that started at a residential home in Southington took place Wednesday evening. The home was located on the Meriden Waterbury Turnpike. Firefighters reported to the scene to combat the flames when the firefighter was injured, reported Eye Witness News.
The fire was reported to have started about 4:15 p.m. in the family’s barn that they used for storage. Police have still not determined how the blaze began. Firefighters were able to extinguish the flames around 5p.m. Several firemen stayed on the premises to confirm that the fire had died completely.
The house was fully engulfed in the flames and the family that owned the house was displaced. The fire ripped through the family’s barn and the house in less than an hour. An adjacent community center was also damaged by the fire. There was not anyone in the family or near the premises that sustained injuries besides the firefighter.
The American Red Cross was on the scene to offer assistance to the family that had just lost their home. The firefighter who sustained injury was released from the hospital after treatment.
