Police reported to the scene with emergency medical services (EMS) to transport the injured victims. Police authorities identified the driver of the pickup truck as 24-year-old Robert Grenon, resident of Salem. The on-duty policeman was identified as Officer Eric Benson, who was driving the cruiser at the time of the accident.
Grenon was operating his pickup truck when he crashed into the police vehicle in the town of Portsmouth. Emergency medical services transported Officer Benson to a local hospital via EMS ambulance to be treated by doctors and nurses for his injuries. Benson was released the same day. Grenon apparently remained uninjured in the crash.
Grenon was taken into the police station on accounts of driving under the influence and for damaging a state police vehicle. Grenon has a scheduled court date on November 9, 2009. After being taken to jail, he was released on bail to return home.
