Arizona personal injury lawyers- A man was killed at a flooring business after a roll of carpet crushed him.
Phoenix, AZ—A giant 1,000-pound roll of carpet crushed a man to death, when the carpet fell on top of him at a Valley flooring business. The fatal accident happened on Tuesday morning, October 6, 2009, around 8:00 a.m., at Ace Flooring in Mesa, as reported by KPHO.
Mesa area police investigators reported, Jerry Pierce, 56, had just arrived at Ace Flooring when a 1,000-pound, five to six foot tall roll of carpet fell on him. It is currently unknown what prompted the giant roll of carpet to fall onto Pierce. Pierce’s business partner reportedly found him trapped underneath the roll of carpet in the storage area behind the store. He then used a forklift to move it off of him, and called 911 for help, but it was already too late. Investigators believe Pierce may have been trapped for over an hour before his business partner found him.
Pierce was pronounced dead by emergency medical services (EMS) teams that responded to the scene of the fatal accident. It is believed that the overwhelming weight of the carpet crushed the man to death. Police officials have since ruled Pierce’s death a tragic accident. Pierce reportedly leaves behind a wife and a family.
