U-Haul trucks hit by CSX Train in New York – 3 killed!

Legal news for New York Truck Accident attorneys—New York State police reported a CSX train crashed into a U-Haul truck in the Town of Pomfret, and fatally injured three.

Chautauqua County, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Three people were fatally injured when a car collided with a CSX freight train Saturday afternoon, October 10, 2009, announced WGRZ.

The Fredonia Fire Department firefighters responded to the incident. The train warning lights were reportedly flashing, and the traffic beams were coming down to alert traffic that a train was coming. The vehicle that contained three men from Dunkirk, decided to cross the tracks at the intersection of Berry Road and Van Buren in the town of Pomfret.

New York State police have identified the fatally injured driver and passengers as 26-year-old Zachary Nydahl, 24-year-old Sean O’Rourke, and 24-year-old William Marquardt. Police reported the accident took place around 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The driver of the vehicle, O’Rourke, was driving the U-Haul truck northbound on Van Buren Road when he decided to cross the railroad tracks as the train was quickly approaching. O’Rourke drove around the safety crossing gates as the warning lights were flashing. The CSX train could not stop before it slammed into the U-Haul rental vehicle.

Police and emergency medical services (EMS) pronounced the three men dead at the scene of the wreck. Chautauqua detectives, CSX officials, along with the Fredonia Fire Department are continuing to probe the fatal accident.
