Peterborough, NH (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – An SUV struck an oncoming vehicle on a rural New Hampshire Road when it crossed the median, and collided head on with a southbound Chevrolet Malibu, announced the Boston Herald, October 12 ,2009.
Professor Stephan, 63, and his 61-year-old wife were traveling down Route 202, with his mother in their 2002 Toyota Highlander around 11:25 a.m. Monday morning when the fatal collision took place in Peterborough. Police identified the driver of the Malibu as 56-year-old Stephan Krause.
Professor Stephen W. Lagakos, his wife, his mother, and the other driver were fatally injured in the wreck.
The well known professor had been gaining ground in research of how to arrest the HIV disease epidemic. Faculty members say that he was an exceptional leader in the department of biostatistics, and that he was a lovely person.
The professor’s SUV erupted into flames when it crashed while police officials on the scene worked to extinguish it. The victims in the crash were reportedly already declared dead. Police have not determined where the couple was heading when the collision occurred. New Hampshire police are currently investigating the fatal collision to determine what caused the professor to loose control of his SUV. The investigation is currently ongoing.
