A firefighter and a elderly woman was injured in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania apartment building blaze.
Bridgeville, PA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) — Firefighters responded to a Bridgeville Towers blaze located on Bank Street in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania on Monday night, October 12, 2009, announced the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The flames climbed in the 11-floor Bridgeville Towers apartment building where 105-120 residents had to be immediately evacuated. The fire began in one woman’s apartment, sources stated. The cause of the fire is still not known. Firefighters battling the blaze said that the resident in the apartment where the fire had started, was seriously injured with burns. Officials reported that the elderly woman’s injuries could possibly be life-threatening. She was flown via trauma helicopter to be treated for injuries at the West Penn Burn Center. Her name was not released.
A firefighter was also injured in battling the blaze. He was transported to St. Clair Hospital to be treated. His condition was not known.
The fire was reported to have started on the fourth floor of the 11-story building. The residents who were evacuated were transported via bus to safety at Fairview Fire Hall. The fire appeared to be an accident, reported fire officials. Authorities intend on speaking with the woman who is currently hospitalized for burns to get an accurate account of what started the fire.
