Atlanta, GA—A two-vehicle crash near Stone Mountain Park on Highway 78 left three people dead and six others injured. The fatal accident happened on Tuesday afternoon, October 13, 2009 around 4:30 p.m., on the east side of Highway 78, as reported by WSBTV.

DeKalb County police officials reported, a white Dodge Stratus driven by James Miles, 55, of Loganville, was changing lanes when the vehicle hit the right bumper of a commuter van. The impact caused the commuter van to spin out of control and flip several times. The van was reportedly transporting nine Georgia Power workers when the crash occurred. The violent crash killed three of the power workers and injured the other six. The deceased workers were identified as Robert Harold Clinton Jr., 60, Ollie Benny Stephens Jr., 49, and Cindy Fitzgerald, 54, all from Lilburn, Georgia.

Clinton was reportedly the driver of the van. Responding rescue crews had to cut the roof of the van off to free the trapped victims. Three of the injured passengers were transported by emergency medical services (EMS) teams to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. The three other injured victims were transported by EMS crews to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment.

Georgia Power or Southern Company Services employed the workers traveling inside the van. The workers had been traveling together in the van owned by VPSI Inc. for several years. The van ride share is reportedly a benefit offered by the company. Miles has not been charged at this time for the crash as of yet. Police officials are conducting a full investigation into the two-vehicle crash.
