Ford pickup truck hit a police squad and injured a Massachusetts state trooper.
Burlington, MA (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A Massachusetts State Trooper was struck while in his police squad car by a driver under the influence of narcotics on Wednesday evening, October 14, 2009, according to Boston Globe.
The Ford pickup truck slammed the officer’s parked vehicle injuring the state trooper just before 11 p.m on Route 128 in Burlington.
The State trooper identified as 36-year-old Daniel Carideo Jr. was parked in the left traffic lane with his lights flashing, while he was documenting a one-vehicle crash that had occurred earlier, when the truck hit him.
The state trooper had a laceration on his head and was transported via emergency medical services (EMS) to the Lahey Clinic located in Burlington. The injured trooper was treated by doctors and nurses and was later released. Police identified the pickup truck driver as 54-year-old Raymond Andrews, resident of Billerica.
Andrews crashed into the trooper’s car in the left lane and then swerved into a right lane and struck a Nissan Versa. The Nissan driver was transported to the Lahey Clinic to be treated.
Police tested Andrews for drugs and proved that he was in fact under the influence. He was given a summons to appear in court and was charged for failure to move over, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, and failure to stop after an accident. The Trooper’s vehicle was towed away from the scene.
