New Jersey firefighter suffered injury in Westfield NJ where the blaze started on back porch.
WESTFIELD, NJ (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A fire that began blazing at a home in Westfield that injured one firefighter when he fell through a dilapidated floor on Monday night, October 12, 2009, reported the Star- Ledger.
Westfield Fire Department firefighters reported to the scene of the 2 ½ story burning home at 591 Westfield Avenue. Firefighters responded to the three alarm blaze around 6:55 p.m. reported fire Chief Dan Kelly. There were two people in the house when the fire began on the back porch. Two families resided at the house. One of the two people in the house at the time of the fire escaped through a first floor window and then other left the house coming down a stairway. Both of the survivors would not receive medical attention.
The home began to collapse while the firefighters were bravely battling the blaze. One of the firefighters within the house suffered injuries when the floor gave way and the firefighter plummeted to the first floor. He was transported to Overlook Hospital in Summit, NJ. He was later released. His name was not released.
The blaze was determined to be an accident. Nine New Jersey fire departments responded to the scene to battle the fire. Chief Dan Kelly would not disclose what started the fire. Firefighters worked diligently to extinguish the flames for an hour and a half.
The firefighters involved came from the following departments: Scotch Plains, Clark Cranford, Garwood, Mountainside, Kenilworth, Roselle, and Fanwood. The Red Cross and EMS rehabilitation team from Union county were also at the scene of the blaze.
