A schoolteacher driving a pickup truck crashed into a pedestrian and fatally injured him on the Parkway.
Long Island, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – A pedestrian was struck by a pickup truck on William Floyd Parkway Sunday, October 18, 2009, announced Newsday.
Suffolk County police reported to the scene of the accident in the southbound lanes of the William Floyd Parkway, where the crash took place around 2:25 a.m. The man, identified as 49-year-old Michael Lynch, had been walking across the parkway when the pickup truck crashed into him and then fled the scene.
The driver of the 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was identified as 32-year-old Center Moriches resident Jennifer Johnson, who had been heading south on the Parkway when she struck and killed Lynch Sunday morning. Michael Lynch had not been walking in the crosswalk when he was hit by Johnson’s pickup.
Johnson was charged with driving while intoxicated and striking a pedestrian. Michael Lynch was declared dead at the scene of the accident. Suffolk County police reported that it appeared that Lynch was walking home. Close to a half an hour after the crash, Johnson drove back to the scene of the accident to give herself up to the police. She was to be arraigned in Central Islip Monday morning. The mother of the accused schoolteacher told police that her daughter was only driving a drunken person home from the karaoke bar after she had drank one beer four hours before the crash.
Suffolk County police announced that there may be more serious charges brought against Johnson and requested that anyone with information to call: 631-852-8752.
