Washington, D.C. (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – Zero Motorcycles Inc. in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) www.CPSC.gov has voluntarily recalled close to 200 products due to a malfunction with the bikes, announced October 15, 2009.
Owners of the off-road motorcycles are advised to discontinue use due to the chance that the bikes may accelerate, or the throttle may become disconnected, which poses a serious risk of injury.
The product’s official make and models are the 2009 Zero X Model and the Zero MX Off-Road Motorcycles. At least 200 units have been distributed at nationwide stores. The product was manufactured in Scotts Valley, California. The bikes are being recalled due to a serious health risk where the throttle can become stuck in the open position, or become disconnected. If the bike is in “Easy” or the “0-25” mode, the bike can accelerate to full power when turning the ignition and will cause the rider to lose control.
There have been three reported cases of the bikes accelerating unexpectedly and one report of a minor injury when using the Zero motorcycles. The bikes are described as white with the Zero logo printed on the battery. The cost of the bikes was between $7,500 and $ 8,300 that were sold through December 2008 through August 2009.
Owners of the motorcycles should stop use and bring the recalled product into Zero Motorcycles for repair at no charge. Owners of these bikes can look for a notice in the mail.
