Albuquerque Police alerts SUV accident attorneys- A commuter bus and SUV crash is called the worst in decades.
Albuquerque, NM—A vehicle flew through the window of a Rapid Ride bus, which was carrying 11 passengers. The bus crash happened on Saturday evening, October 17, 2009 at the intersection of Oak and Central near Interstate 25, as reported by KRQE.
Police officials are calling the commuter bus crash the worst they have seen in almost three decades. The Rapid Ride bus was reportedly traveling westbound on Central as an SUV was making a left turn onto Oak. The SUV apparently ran a red light and cut off the bus. The bus driver reported three impacts; the bus crashed into the SUV, then hit a traffic light pole, and when the bus hit the SUV into the bridge support.
The bus driver didn’t have any time to stop before hitting the SUV, pushing the vehicle a few yards, and slamming it against a wall. Surveillance video located inside the Rapid Ride bus showed the SUV careening into the windshield of the bus. The 11 passengers on board of the bus did not sustain life-threatening injuries. It is unknown if they were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries by emergency medical services (EMS) teams.
The driver of the SUV survived the crash, but it is unknown what were the extent of the driver’s injuries. Albuquerque police officials are reportedly conducting a full investigation into the bus wreck.
