Brooklyn, NY (NewYorkInjuryNews.com) – New York City Firefighters (FDNY) responded to a 2-alarm blaze at a home in Brooklyn Tuesday morning, October 20, 2009, announced the New York Daily News.
FDNY officials reported that the flames started to spread throughout the East New York 2-story home located on Warwick Street around 12:20 a.m. The blaze quickly engulfed the second floor of the neighborhood house.
The owner of the home, Massoud Rahman, was not in his house at the time, but caught word about the blaze, and quickly returned home to salvage any of his belongings. After Massoud arrived at his damaged home, and told news sources that “everything is lost, including my books, television, and cash money.”
Firefighters had gone into the house to search for survivors and found a man dead with his hands and feet tied up. Massoud had worried that the dead man was his 42-year-old cousin who had been living in the house basement. Massoud had tried to get a hold of his cousin, without any luck, before the blaze occurred.
Two firefighters sustained injuries while battling the inferno and had to be transported to the hospital. The two brave firefighters were treated for their injuries at Jamaica Hospital by doctors and nurses. They were reported to be in stable condition. The FDNY firefighters battled the blaze tirelessly until it was under control 30 minutes after it started.
Neighbors reported that a suspicious man had been watching Massoud’s home. Neighbors did not know that man or the reason he had been there for several months. FDNY officials believed that the house fire was started deliberately in an act of arson. The blaze is under investigation to determine a motive and cause for the fire.
