Fall at Qualcomm Stadium leaves Chargers game-day staffer dead

San Diego, CA—A worker who was setting up for the Chargers-Denver Broncos game died after falling nearly 25-feet and landing on concrete and seats. The game-day staffer tragically past away in an area hospital early Tuesday morning, October 20, 2009 after his fatal fall on Monday afternoon, October 19, 2009, as reported by San Diego 6.

The San Diego Police and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department reported around 2:30 p.m. a San Diego Chargers game-day staffer identified as Walt Daniels plummeted nearly 25-feet below. Daniels apparently landed on spectator’s seats and on the concrete below the seats. Witnesses in the area stated the 66-year-old staffer, who walked with the aide of a cane, happened to stumble as he was walking down a flight of stairs and fell 25-feet below. Responding paramedics performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) at the scene of the accident on Daniels before was rushed to Sharp Memorial Hospital for further treatment. Unfortunately Daniels passed away around 2:30 a.m. while under the care of doctors and nurses at the hospital. The California Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) will be conducting a full investigation into the fatal fall. Police officials are also reportedly investigating the fall. Daniels leaves behind a loving wife and two beautiful daughters.
